The Nightmare

I woke up with a headache, it was only Wednesday, and the weekend was a little too far. I looked at the clock it was 3 AM – I thanked god for the more sleep and was lurched. Then I heard something. I waived it off thinking it was nothing – but then it grew louder. It sounded distant at first, but then it grew stronger – it seemed to be coming from the living room.

It was the sound of soft growls – something like a dog makes when trying to intimidate an opponent. But wait – I didn’t have a dog!

I tried getting out of my bed – but couldn’t move – it felt like my feet froze, and…my hands as well. As if they were tied to something – I pushed harder and harder, yet I couldn’t move an inch. I could feel the sweat trickling down my ears and my temple drummed like I just ran a marathon.

I yelled for help – but all that came out was a hiss, or not even that. What was it? Or rather who was it? My parents were in the next room – but I couldn’t move – nor could I speak. What was happening to me? Was there someone inside my room- what did he want from me? I was thinking fast and putting out all possible explanations.

A thought shook me – was I dying? Is this what they call a near death experience? I was lying there helpless – for an hour, maybe two – I wasn’t sure. I lost track of time. All I saw was my wall and a sinking feeling came over.

Yes, that was it – It was my end. I thought about my parents, my siblings, my office and about people I won’t say goodbye to. My eyes were burning, and my head was exploding. The song “Voodoo” by the band Godsmack started drumming in my ears.

“Candles raise my desire

Why I’m so far away

No more meaning to my life

No more reason to stay

Freezing feeling

Breathe in, breathe in

I’m coming back again”

And then it went all black…

I found myself in my bed, in my room – again. Was I dead? I checked the clock Wednesday, 3 AM

Was I hallucinating? Was it a nightmare?

Then I heard something. the sound of soft growls – something like a dog makes when… OH SHIT!!!
